summer

Well the heat of summer has been upon us. It has been blistering hot! We have been busy – but it is time to get ready for fall, school and sports, etc.

Our washer was a huge hose bubble away from bursting. Luckily the water leaking from it prompted us to replace it. That of course meant deciding what kind or washer and dryer to get. The expensive front loaders or the “old” kind. Upon doing a little research and realizing the cost savings in energy and water – we went with the front loaders. So then Mary decided that the wall paper in there just wasn’t very modern. I admit it was a bit 80s – but the room was small and I hardly ever went in there. So, she decided to see how easily the paper would come off. She chose the only totally exposed wall to try it on – and by golly it just peeled away. While she was at the laundromat, I started peeling. Let’s just say she had the only spot that came off freely. As I sat at my desk Monday morning, I realized that replacing the floor would be relatively cheap and the linolium in there was worse than the wallpaper. So before the machines were delivered on Weds., we had to replace the floor and get the walls prepared and painted. We did it though – and it looks great. Those new machines sure are big!

About the time the washer started to leak, the garbage disposal broke. It sounded like one of the blades broke off in there. So, we decided that would wait until we could get a new one and someone to install it. We put the strainer in and just lived with it. The other night – Mary forgot it wasn’t working – turned it on – the loud grounding noise ensued. She turned it off – took a gander and pulled out a corn cob holder. It was mangled – and apparently the blade wasn’t causing the noise. It is working great. Glad we didn’t call a plumber on that one…

The next purchase needs to be a garage door opener. I don’t think we will be so lucky as to have it just “fix itself”. I think our luck in that arena is about done.
